Okay, I've been getting some offline questions about what gear you need and what gear you don't need for a correct Finn impression. So to clear up any debate, here is what a Finn most commonly carried in the field:
1 Brown prong equipment belt 1 Brown WWI German Ammo pouch 1 Finnish or WWI German Breadbag and Strap 1 Canteen, either German WWI or original Finn (Swedish is okay too with some conversion) 1 Puuko knife
The Brown belt should be a surplus Soviet army equipment belt or repro Soviet, and can be found on Trident Militaria.
The Ammo pouch, breadbag and canteen can be found cheaply on Ebay. I'm thinking of a total about $50 combined plus shipping if you catch the right deals. KevOs sells the gear too, but with a dramatically marked up price. I suggest looking on Ebay before ordering from KevOs if you are on a budget.
The Puuko knife is also an ebay item. I've seen their prices range from $20 per blade to upwards of $100. Each is unique and it was a personal item so there is no "correct look". Just make sure that it is indeed a puuko knife and there is a pic of one on the website to go against.

Yowza, $50 EACH?!?! What a rip! Ebay!!!! I've seen them go for as little as $10 each...and they are the SAME Finnish Army ammo pouches!

Lol, still cheaper than the repros Schipperfabrik. But yeah, I'd agree Ebay is the way to go. If I didn't have repros already I'd probably get them from there.
What would you have to do to alter the Swedish canteen to make it better for the Finnish style? From what I can tell is that all of the Northern European nations used the same screw top style. I know KeOsv has reproduction wool covers for sale but again, saving money is an important thing.

Schipper's are nice, and repro and the price if for A SET. Not 1! IMA has some good shit, but they really know how to overprice some items! Okay, the Finn canteens. To mod a Swede canteen to be 100% correct all you would need to do is replace the wool cover with Finn cover similar to the blue ones KevOs sells. The KevOs covers look like Air Force covers, but they are usable and you find them occasionally on Ebay as well. The biggest difference between a Swede canteen and Finn version is the carrying strap either made of leather, i.e. WWI German style, or cloth (like the ones KevOs sells). The Swede canteen lacks them but has the handy dandy belt attachment, which is worth it's weight in gold! So it's a really simple conversion.

Oh right, misread it. My bad.
I probably will try the leather strap carrying case sometime. It seems that the vast majority of the other Northern European nations used that style anyways.

For ammo pouches how about the Turkish brown pouches? They are pretty cheap and in good condition. I think about $7.

Do you have any pics of them? The Turkish pouches I've seen are similar (or exactly) like WWI German pouches, if that's the case, they are acceptable. Btw, how do we know you?

Well, you don't know me but I am interested in obtaining a Finish impression along with a couple others. We are in the midwest. I will have to get some pictures of the ammo pouches. I think they are not exact but pretty close. In any case I am slowly building a Finish impression. Another question I have been mulling over is if the "Swedish work shirts" (I think that is what they are called) from Sportsman Guide can be converted into a workable Finish summer tunic? Also, I found this forum from the WWII Reenactor Forum. TarawaJon ;D

no prob...I'd like to see the pouches, do you have pics?
Finnish pouches aren't too pricey yet... Most of them are being sold as WWI German pouches (which they really are, check the maker marks) but have been reinforced during their years of service so they aren't completely like pure German pouches. Usually the modification is the replacement of the stitching on the flaps with a small piece of leather reinforcement bolted on.

Do the red handled Swedish Mora knives work?

As long as the handle is made out of "traditional" materials i.e NOT plastic, a Mora knife should be fine.

That would work, especially if you do a Swedish-speaking Finn impression.
