It almost reminds me of the Swedish and Norwegian Bayonets. Though how often were they used in the war? From what I've read, it seems that the soldiers tended to ditch the blades after a while since they were impractical. Is there any truth behind this statement?

I've only seen a couple pics of Finns with full gear and even fewer of them with a Bayonet, unless they are on sentry duty. The Finns seem to have been the most pragmatic of the armies to fight in WWII and got rid of all their redundant and useless gear, unless absolutely necessary. This blade would have been redundant since the Finn almost always carried his personal Puuko knife, which is a dedicated utility knife and much better to use for day to day chores.
